Privacy Policy

KokaniRishta is a matrimonial platform for people and families connected to the Kokan/Konkan region. For the purposes of the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (“DPDP Act”), KokaniRishta is the Data Fiduciary responsible for your personal data.

We collect only the information needed to run a safe and useful matrimonial service.

Information you give us

• Account details: first and last name, gender, email address, and password.
• Profile details: date of birth, religion, community, marital status, height, weight, education, occupation, current and permanent address, and your partner expectations.
• Photos: profile and gallery photos you upload, along with your blur and visibility settings.
• Verification documents: government-issued ID (such as Aadhaar) that you choose to upload to get a verified badge.
• Activity and communications: interests you send, accept, or withdraw, your matches, and messages you exchange with other members.
• Payments: for premium plans, the amount, payment method type, transaction ID, and payment status. Card, UPI, and bank details are entered with our payment partner and are not stored by us.
• Support and reports: anything you send us by email or when reporting a profile or message.

Information collected automatically

• Device and log data: IP address, device type, operating system, browser or app version, and the dates and times you access the Service.
• Session data: login and security tokens that keep you signed in.
• Notification tokens: if you allow push notifications in the app, a device token used to deliver alerts about matches and messages.
• Usage analytics: aggregated information about how pages on our website are visited (see Section 6).

• To create and manage your account and profile.
• To show you compatible profiles and let you search by age, religion, marital status, and other preferences.
• To deliver interests, matches, and messages between members.
• To review verification documents and display a verified badge.
• To process payments and provide premium features.
• To send service emails, such as password resets, and notifications about account activity.
• To detect and prevent fraud, fake profiles, harassment, and other misuse, and to act on reports.
• To respond to your support requests.
• To comply with legal obligations, including the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the DPDP Act.

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.

KokaniRishta works by letting registered members view each other’s profiles. Your name, age, profile details, and photos may be visible to other members. You control how your photos appear: photos you mark as blurred stay blurred until you choose to reveal them. Your email address, password, verification documents, and payment details are never shown to other members.

Messages you send are visible to the member you send them to. Please think carefully before sharing phone numbers, addresses, or other contact details, and read our Safety Tips.

We share personal data only in these situations:

• Service providers: companies that host our website, app, and database, deliver emails and push notifications, and provide analytics. They process data only on our instructions.
• Payment partners: payment gateways that process premium purchases under their own security standards.
• Legal and safety reasons: law enforcement, courts, or government authorities when required by law, or when needed to protect the safety of our members or the public, including reports described in our Child Safety Standards.
• Business transfers: a successor entity if KokaniRishta is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this policy.

Some of our service providers may store or process data outside India. Where that happens, we take steps to make sure your data remains protected as required by Indian law.

We use essential cookies and similar storage to keep you signed in and secure. Our website uses privacy-friendly analytics to understand page visits in aggregate. For details, see our Cookie Policy.

We keep your personal data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your profile, photos, interests, and messages within a reasonable period. We may keep limited records for longer where required, for example payment records under tax laws, or information connected to a safety report, fraud investigation, or legal claim.

Verification documents are used only to confirm your identity and are kept no longer than needed for that purpose and any related legal requirement.

We use reasonable security practices to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), access controls that limit verification documents to authorised reviewers, and monitoring for misuse. No system is completely secure, so please use a strong, unique password and keep it private. If a personal data breach affects you, we will notify you and the relevant authorities as required by law.

Under the DPDP Act and other applicable Indian law, you have the right to:

• Access: ask for a summary of the personal data we hold about you and how it is used.
• Correction: update or complete inaccurate profile information. Most details can be edited directly in your profile.
• Erasure: ask us to delete your personal data (see Section 10).
• Withdraw consent: withdraw your consent at any time. This will not affect processing already carried out, but we may no longer be able to provide the Service.
• Nominate: nominate another person to exercise your rights in the event of your death or incapacity.
• Grievance redressal: raise a complaint with our Grievance Officer (see Section 13), and if it is not resolved, approach the Data Protection Board of India.

You can also turn off push notifications in your device settings and change photo blur settings at any time. To exercise any right, email support@kokanirishta.in from the email address linked to your account.

You can delete your account at any time from the account settings in the KokaniRishta app or website. If you cannot access your account, email support@kokanirishta.in with the subject “Delete my account” from your registered email address, and we will process the request after confirming your identity. Deletion removes your profile from search and is handled as described in Section 7.

The Service is for adults only. You must be at least 18 years old to register, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If we learn that an account belongs to a minor, we will remove it and delete the associated data. To report a concern, email safety@kokanirishta.in.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the “Last updated” date above, and for significant changes we will notify you by email or in the app before they take effect.

In accordance with the Information Technology Act, 2000, the rules made under it, and the DPDP Act, you can contact our Grievance Officer about any concern with how your personal data is handled:
